Career as a Barber?

My wife is a hair stylist, and I'm thinking about going to barber college so that one day we can open a business together. My question is, what does the future job outlook for barbers look like? Is barber school worth the time and money? Also, how difficult would it be to start my own barber/salon?Career as a Barber?
hey man just say ur question in my email and im glad i did, it would be a cool trade to learn, now saying that my brothers ex-wife jen bassler and my ex-wife's sister mindy mcconnel both went to hair designer school ';different ones'; but damn they were expensive!!!!.. and neither one do it any more jen went to vet school, and mindy is a waitress, most hair studios make you rent a chair and give up a % of your profits to them!! it is crazy... but if you open your own studio then im sure you can make a profit, else wise expect 8-10 hour days at $50-$75 for the day, may i recommend CDL, accounting, auto or motorcycle repair, nursing, comp programming, const management,%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;gunsmithing%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; lol but if you really like to do hair and have $5000-$10000 to rent a small office and get a couple chairs and supplies ';supplies get expensive too $25+ for a pair of good scissors youll need a few';

but yeah you can make it happen.....Career as a Barber?
it's probably a great idea.. I see tons of barber shops run by old men that are still around, but you never see new ones opening - which is odd because there seems to be much less stigma with men caring about their appearance these days..

business doesn't change very often.. if you're good at it and advertise you'll be successful.. barber school and starting your own shop is probably not that expensive either, it depends on where you are and how big you want to make the shop, but it's certainly one of the cheapest ways to get into business for yourself :)

I think alone it wouldn't necessarily be worth the time and money, but to open a unisex salon would make it a lot easier and more lucritive (you can rent out other chairs to other stylists, and have lots flexibility to rent out other spaces and expand into doing nails and waxing eyebrows etc)..
Very low income brother, unless you become very successful. Risk of huge competition, and good research is required before opening a barber shop.

It won't be difficult, you'll just need land, labour and capital.

If you do decide to go through with it, please make sure you research well and make sure that there is no competition nearby

Good Luck ;)
you'll make enough money to live...but unless you open up shop in nyc or beverly hills i wouldnt expect a super return on your investment.

i'm intelligent enough to do a lot of things...

i don't

i do what i love...and i only make 12 bucks an hour currently.

you only live once. don't waste your time doing something that you won't have fun with.
Regardless, it definately beats these jobs:
