Barber %26amp; Jones represent the wave of the near future for NFL running games. They complement each other well due to their contrasting styles. Barber is a stronger back with great vision and patience. He accellerates into the hole hard and is seldom tackled by the first defender. He leads Jones in avg yards per carry and he is a superb pass (blitz) blocker. Jones also has good vision and is faster as well as quicker. He has more potential to go the distance on any given run. His lower avg per carry can be explained by the fact that he carries the ball more on first and second downs than Barber. These downs usually see the defense stacked against the run.





The end result of using both backs is that come the late 3rd and 4th quarters the Cowboys have two fresh backs that can abuse tired defenders. I think that you will see more teams turn to tandem running backs in the next year.
By far Barber is better, he was 3rd in league in TDs last year and last I cheeked Barber was leading the league this year.
It depends on what you look for in a RB. If you want a guy who can make good cuts, break off a 10-12 yard run every once in a while, go with Jones. If you want a bruiser who'll knock guys off their feet and score 10+ TD's, go with Barber.





The only real advantage for Barber is that he's been healthy for the better part of his young career, while JJ has had to deal with injuries for part of his.
Barber. He reads the defense better and has better field vision. He makes bigger plays and is more dangerous in goal line situations. He has more leg power than Jones and is able to break more tackles and gain those precious extra yards.
Barber seems to have better vision, more patience, and a better burst when he hits the hole. He plays with more energy than Julius Jones and seems to have a lot more heart.
