';The grind took its toll on me and really forced me to start thinking about what I wanted to do next. And that's not a bad thing. That's a good thing, for me at least. Maybe not for the Giants because they lose one of their great players.';
O'RLY, Tiki?Giants win SB ... so is Tiki Barber overrated?
He was the SH$@ bro coming away from a few great seasons, he was not one of the best ever by far, sounds like the best thing that could have for the Giants, did.Giants win SB ... so is Tiki Barber overrated?
Tiki, was a very good running back as is evidenced by His becoming the GIANTS all time leading rusher, in the few years that He was actually the starter. if anything, He was way more replaceable than He thought, He was. the negative comments that, He had for Coach Coughlin, Eli and, the GIANTS were I think, more than anything, inflicted as a result of wanting to jump start His broadcasting career and, show His fellow broadcasters that, He would not be prejudiced, on the part of the GIANTS. what He did was wrong and, although I don't condone or, agree with what He did, I still can't bring Myself to hate Him because of what He meant to the franchise, while He was playing.
I would choose anarchy, and my questions are out of curiosity, since I'm not an american.
about football, well, that is just opium.
As a player Tiki was not overrated. He did produce those amazing seasons once he stopped fumbling the ball. Tiki's impact on the Giant's was overrated...it is obvious that without him their focus became more team oriented as opposed to a singular focus (getting Tiki his touches). The overall impact for the Giants is something they would take ten times out of ten...they got their SB...he got his broadcasting career.
im a giants fan so i watched Tiki play every week for years and i could tell you that no he was actually under rated as a player. he was phenomenal. that being said i do actually think the giants improved when he left the team for one reason. Eli became the offensive leader of the team. that gave him the confidence to be the player he was in the playoffs. another example of that is when Shockey went down. that really made it Elis team. he took the reigns and brought us to the promised land. that and the fact that jacobs and bradshaw filled in really well.
Good thing Strahan didn't listen to Tiki. Tiki was the 4th person I thought of after Tynes made that kick in OT. He was a pretty good back, but I don't think he ever respected the position he was in. I do see where he is coming from a little in the sense the guy is 5'9 and was 30% to 40% of the offense. He took a pounding. However, you have guys like Terrell Owens who are screaming for the ball. LT in San Diego pleading for the ball. Tiki got the ball. And Brandon Jacobs was brought in to help alleviate some of the load. I don't think he was overrated, but his ego was overwhelming.
He is a pretty good playr , but I still do not like him.
Tiki put together some amazing freakin seasons...For three years, his numbers got bigger as her got older!! However, as Coach and the rest of the team found out, he was not a player that you'd want to run thru a brick wall for. His selfishness and attitude was just a big downer and it ran thru the team like a cancer. Without him, the team formed a bond that was totally based on the ';i'd do anything for my teammate attitude'; and, as we found out, is what wins the Super Bowl.
To answer the question, Tiki is not overrated at all. The last 3 years he was one of the top 2 or 3 backs in the league. But, the concept that a ';superstar'; makes a team better is definately overrated. T.O. anyone??
Tiki was a talented athlete. His attitude sucked though. If a team can't get along it can't play as a team. All the talent in the world won't help if you mix in selfishness and the inability to be part of a team. I don't think he ever understood the following: He played for the Giants. The Giants did not play for Tiki.
He was a great player but he was bad for the team, they say he was bad for the locker room. The giants might not have won the super bowl if they still had him.
Tiki Barber overrated?
Everyone in NYC is overrated. You can't survive in NYC unless you're overrated. Good is not good enough. If you had your way, you wouldn't have your QB because you could do better. And you wouldn't have your coach because you know better. Outside NYC we laugh about you. Do you know why the cost of living is so high in NYC? Because every home has a PHD.
gldmj5 - I don't know how you got my name but I did play a little football and I coached a little football. I was on championship teams at every level. We started the most athletic players on defense. If you could play offense, so much the better. But you do win games with defense. If the other team can't score, you can't lose.
If your defense keeps putting your offense back on the field, sooner or later they're going to score. 3-and-out, offensive, 3-and-out, the offense continues. See Bears, 2005. The best mentality is for the defense to outscore the offense. So no, I don't think much of anyone who doesn't understand defense. Give me John Madden - or Bud Grant.
kevgrass -
To use terminology from a great coach, ';Quarterback? Quarterback? Don't talk quarterback!'; Very few quarterbacks understand anything about football. The best coaches played defense. All you need in a quarterback is someone who won't drop the ball and can give it to somebody else. See Rex Grossman. QB's get the glory because some other dead arm QB in the booth, who can't take a hit in the head, wishes he were the one on the field. They even say so repeatedly.
And writers who would rather promote baseball can't write about football unless the score changes. When Randy broke the TD record, he held up the football to the camera. I thought he was going to paint a baseball on it with a flash card under it saying BALL so the baseball reporters could recognize what it was. So what does a RB know? At least he knows contact. And football is a contact sport.
I do not think Tiki is overratted but I do think he is kicking him self right now he may be a little full of himself too.
I am not sure if the Giants still had Tiki if they still would have won the Super Bowl. He might of been a distraction.
hes a good player but he talked too much and that was a problem in this particular locker room... that doesnt take away from his career
No. Very few single players that don't play QB have a huge impact on a football team. Each year a team is way too different to pin success or failure on one offseason move..
He was great and anything that happened after he left can not take away from that.
The Giants finally pulled it all together. Maybe it helped that they did not have Tiki to go to every play...we will never know...but all that says is that when they play as a team and not just expect Tiki to get you there....well, maybe that is what they needed. Defenses always knew Tiki was coming...since he left, the Giants have utilized so many people, the defense does not know what is coming.
he was overrated
without coughlin he would be out of the league
no he isnt
